Gordon's Three Hits Leads the Way to Win

August 28, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - Kansas City outfielder Alex Gordon notched a three-hit games, with one RBI, as the Omaha Storm Chasers (74-59) took the series opener against the Fresno Grizzlies (79-53) by a score of 5-1. The win kept pace with Oklahoma City, and Omaha remains 6.5 games back of the Dodgers with 11 games remaining.

Alex Gordon was a part of a four-run rally for the Storm Chasers in the second inning, which provided all the scoring Omaha would need for the victory. Dusty Coleman, J.C. Boscan and Gordon collected three straight RBI singles, and the final run of the inning scored on a passed ball by Fresno with the bases loaded. In the five games with the Storm Chasers as part of his MLB Rehab Assignment, Gordon has batted .400 (8-for-20) with four RBI.

The Omaha pitching staff turned in another stellar outing this homestand, limiting the opponent to one or fewer runs for the third time in the five games. The total runs given up by the Storm Chasers in that five-game span is ten, coming against two of the top teams in the Pacific Coast League this month in Sacramento and Fresno. Omaha now has a team ERA of 3.83 on the year, and if they hold that mark it would be their lowest since joining the PCL in 1998.

Jose Martinez went 1-for-3 with a RBI on the night, and is now hitting at .392 while being just three plate appearances shy of qualifying with the league's best average. The Storm Chasers have now won seven of their last eight games at Werner Park, one of four teams in the league with 40 or more wins at home.

In tomorrow's matchup, Omaha will send out LHP Chris Dwyer (2-2, 4.04 ERA) to face off with Grizzlies LHP Luis Cruz (6-5, 4.64 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
