The Chiefs will play the Kane County Cougars in a best-of-three first round series though home field advantage is still undecided and could come down to the final three games of the regular season between the teams in Geneva September 5-7. If the Chiefs with the Western Division second half title they would host games two and three (if necessary) on Thursday, September 10 and Friday, September 11. If the Chiefs are unable to pass the Cougars in the standings and finish as Wild Card winners then Dozer Park will host game one on Wednesday, September 9.

If the Chiefs get past the Cougars in round one, the second round of the playoffs is also a best-of-three series and is scheduled for September 12-14. The Chiefs would start at home with one game against Cedar Rapids and then play the next two at the Kernels if Cedar Rapids beats Quad Cities in round one. If Quad Cities wins the first round series, the Chiefs would play game one at the River Bandits and then host games two and three September 13-14.

The Midwest League finals run from September 16-21 with a scheduled off day on Friday, September 18 for travel. The Western Division Champion gets home field so the Chiefs could host the final three MWL Finals games September 19-21 in the best-of-five series format.

The Chiefs last made the playoffs in 2009 and were swept by the Cedar Rapids Kernels 2-0 in the first round. The Chiefs lost in the first round as well in 2006 and 2004. The 2004 series was against Kane County as the Chiefs won game one at home but lost the next two nights in Geneva. The last time the Chiefs won a playoff series was in 2002 when they won their first Midwest League title in four games over Lansing.
