Firebirds to Open Inaugural Training Camp on Monday

Flint, Mich. - The Flint Firebirds Hockey Club announced today the start of training camp to be held at Iceland Arena beginning Monday, Aug. 31. The opening of training camp gives fans their first chance to watch the Firebirds in action with all practices and scrimmages being open to the public.

"This time of year is one of the most exciting times of the year for any franchise because it's a new beginning," said Firebirds General Manager Terry Christensen. "The fans that come out to Iceland Arena next week are going to see guys compete for jobs and do everything they possibly can to impress the coaching and scouting staffs. They're going to see a lot of energy and effort in the building."

Along with the complete roster of signed Firebirds players and invited free agents, four of the club's NHL Draft Picks will be in attendance including Alex Nedeljkovic (Carolina Hurricanes), Alex Peters (Dallas Stars), Vili Saarijärvi (Detroit Red Wings) and Josh Wesley (Carolina Hurricanes).

Training camp will conclude with the Firebirds inaugural Blue vs. White Game at the Polar Palace Arena in Lapeer on Thursday, Sept. 3. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. and tickets are still available for $10 with proceeds being split with the Lapeer County Youth Hockey Association (LCHA). Fans can purchase tickets at the Polar Palace Arena and Dort Federal Event Center Box Offices as well as online at ticketmaster.com.

Below is the official schedule and all events are open to the public:

Tuesday - September 1st

Practice at Iceland Arena: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday - September 2nd

Practice at Iceland Arena: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Scrimmage at Iceland Arena: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Thursday - September 3rd

Practice at Iceland Arena: 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Blue vs. White Game at Polar Palace Arena: 7:30 p.m.

Friday - September 4th

Preseason Game at Saginaw: 7:05 p.m.

Standing room only tickets to the Flint Firebirds inaugural opening night game vs. the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday, Sept. 26 are available by visiting the Dort Federal Event Center Box Office, ticketmaster.com or by calling (810) 744-0580.
