Seattle Reign FC Capture 2015 NWSL Shield

August 27, 2015 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

CHICAGO (Aug. 27, 2015) - Seattle Reign FC claimed the NWSL Shield for the second-consecutive season last night following a 3-1 win over the Boston Breakers at Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium in Seattle. The NWSL Shield is awarded to the team with the best regular-season record.

Midfielders Megan Rapinoe and Kim Little as well as defender Kendall Fletcher all scored for Reign FC in their sixth consecutive victory - one shy of the NWSL record that they share with FC Kansas City - as Seattle clinched the best regular-season record with two games to spare.

Coach and general manager Laura Harvey's side have racked up a 12-3-3 record and 39 points to become the first team to repeat as NWSL Shield winners. The Reign stormed to the 2014 shield with a 16-2-6 performance as they set an NWSL record averaging 2.25 points per game.

Seattle will have the opportunity to match that mark if they are able to win both of their remaining matches - at home August 29 against Sky Blue FC and on the road versus the Washington Spirit on September 5.

Reign FC have had strong performances at Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium to claim both the 2014 and 2015 regular-season titles - having never lost there. Seattle posted an 8-0-4 record in front of their fans last season at Memorial Stadium followed by a home playoff victory against the Spirit.

This season, midfielders Jess Fishlock and Keelin Winters, forward Beverly Yanez, along with goalkeeper Hope Solo and defenders Elli Reed, Stephanie Cox, Lauren Barnes and Rachel Corsie have helped the Reign to an 8-0-1 mark at home.

Seattle Reign FC returns to action on Saturday, August 29 at 10 p.m. ET when they host Sky Blue FC at Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium in Seattle.
