August 26, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves were shut out on Wednesday night, 3-1, in the finale of a four-game series against the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium.

Binghamton jumped ahead in the second against Erie starter Josh Turley. With one out, Joe Benson doubled to left and advanced to third on an error. He scored on a Jonathan Galvez sacrifice fly to right for a 1-0 lead.

The Mets added to the lead in the third, going ahead 3-0. With T.J. Rivera on first, Josh Rodriguez connected on an opposite-field, two-run home run, his 19th.

Mets left-hander Steven Matz (1-0), down on a rehab assignment, was dominant. He tossed six shutout innings, allowing a single to Jeff McVaney. Matz did not allow a walk and he struck out six. He also set down the final 16 batters he faced in the game.

The lone Erie run came in the ninth against reliever Jon Velasquez. Wynton Bernard led off the inning and connected on a solo home run to left, his fourth, making it 3-1. Erie would get no closer. The hit for Bernard was his team-leading 144th of the season. He is now 19 shy of the all-time record for hits in a single season that was set by Omar Infante in 2001.

Turley (11-8) took the loss allowing three runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in seven innings of work.
