-SPIKES TAKE ON CROSSCUTTERS IN PINCKNEY CLASH: The State College Spikes, who still hold sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race by a half-game over West Virginia, continue their 10th Season this evening with the finale of a three-game series against the Williamsport Crosscutters at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field. The matchup features the defending NYPL champs in the Spikes against the team with best record in the NYPL in the Crosscutters. State College is 1-6 against Williamsport this year, with an 0-3 record on the road so far against the Crosscutters. All-time, the Spikes are 57-58 against the 'Cutters, with a 25-32 mark in Williamsport.

-LAST GAME: Casey Grayson's RBI double in the first inning was trumped by Jose Pujols's two-run homer as the Williamsport Crosscutters took a 2-1 decision over the State College Spikes on Tuesday night at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field. Grayson delivered two hits on the night, with his extra-base hit in the opening frame knocking in Jhohan Acevedo to give the Spikes the lead. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Mark Laird singled and Pujols followed with his third home run of the season two batters later to put the Crosscutters out in front. Acevedo and Orlando Olivera each provided multiple hits for State College as well, but the Spikes could not muster the key hit to score the tying run. Starter Jacob Evans took the loss for the Spikes despite allowing just two runs on a total of six hits and a walk over a career-long seven innings. Evans also struck out five batters on the night.

-RODRIGUEZ GETS BALL FOR SPIKES TONIGHT: State College right-hander Jorge Rodriguez gets his 12th start of the season tonight. Rodriguez has been outstanding on the road this year, going 3-0 with a microscopic 0.32 ERA over five starts comprising 28 innings away from home this year. The San Cristobal, Dominican Republic native has not allowed an earned run on the road since Jan Hernandez homered off him in the fifth inning on June 20 at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field. Rodriguez allowed five runs over 5 1/3 innings to the Crosscutters last time out in State College on Thursday.

-'CUTTERS GO WITH TAVERAS ON HILL: Williamsport right-hander Jose Taveras will make his 11th start of the season tonight for the Crosscutters. Taveras allowed three runs, two of them earned, on four hits, a walk and a hit batsman over 6 2/3 innings for the win against State College on Thursday. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native has recorded two wins against the Spikes this season, earning the decision on June 21 in State College as well. Taveras is allowing righties a .227 batting average this year, but lefties are hitting .282 against him.

-SPIKES PRODUCE, BUT SOUTH FALLS IN ALL-STAR GAME: Spikes representatives Leobaldo Pina, Mike Pritchard, Casey Grayson, Juan Perez and Landon Beck all made contributions to the South in the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, but the North won the annual showcase of baseball's future stars, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, MD. Pina, who doubled, joined Pritchard, who scored a run, with hits in the game.

-MARTIN EARNS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD: Spikes Athletic Trainer Dan Martin has been named the New York-Penn League Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS). The award is given annually to one member of each of the 16 leagues in Minor League Baseball, as well as one award for the Dominican Summer League, with an additional award is given to the Minor League Coordinator of the Year. Martin is now eligible for the Minor League Trainer of the Year award as well, which will be given at the 2015 Winter Meetings in Nashville, TN.
