Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Sioux City, IA August 25, 2015- The Sioux City X's are having a dream season leading the American Association in wins and just about every category imaginable as they steam toward the post season. They had been shutout only three times all season through 88 games. Make that four times in 89 games as the Gary South Shore RailCats shut out Sioux City 4-0 Tuesday night at Lewis and Clark Park. It was the second time the RailCats shut out the X's this season following the July 7th 1-0 blanking the RailCats gave the X's at US Steel Yard.

Both clubs sent out true rookies to the hill with Sioux City starter Brandon Stennis retiring 11 straight at one point. Sioux City had some chances against Fernando Gonzalez including a leadoff double in the home half of the first by Matty Johnson. Gonzalez got out of that spot and worked seven for his second straight quality start.

The RailCats finally broke through in the top of the eighth. With one out Brennan Metzger was hit by a pitch by reliever Billy Bullock. Adam Taylor followed with a bloop single to right to set the RailCats up with runners at first and second. Dustin Geiger then stepped up and doubled off the wall in left to make it 1-0. The X's then walked Jose Sermo to load the bases to face Alex Hernandez.

The RailCats would get a bases loaded walk from Hernandez to drive in the second run. After Jaime Del Valle lined to left Bullock then walked Spencer Mahoney with the bases loaded to bring in another run and it was 3-0. Jose Flores came in and got out of the inning to take the game to the bottom of the eighth.

Andy Roberts came in for Matt Solter, who worked one inning of scoreless relief for Gary. Roberts walked Brendan Slattery with one out but was able to get Brent Keys to bounce into a force at second then pick Keys off first to end the threat.

The RailCats got one more in the top of the ninth when Dustin Geiger knocked in his second run of the ball game after a one out walk to Brennan Metzger and it was 4-0. Roberts worked the ninth allowing a double and a walk but buckled down to notch his second save of the year. Solter (2-2) picked up his second win in as many relief appearances and Bullock (2-1) was charged with the loss.

The two teams will wrap up the three game series with a 7:05pm game Wednesday night from Sioux City with the game carried on 95.9 WEFM and online at RailCatsBaseball.com. The RailCats return home to face the New Jersey Jackals of the CAN-AM League Thursday night at 7:10pm at US Steel Yard.
