Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Memphis Redbirds delivered early blows and the Tacoma Rainiers never bounced back in an 8-2 loss at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Rainiers found themselves in an insurmountable 7-0 run hole after surrendering a three-run inning in the first and a four-run frame in the second. Redbirds first baseman Dan Johnson was responsible for five of those runs after belting two-run and three-run homers over that stretch.

Tacoma's deficit ballooned to 8-0 before the club finally appeared on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. Second baseman Patrick Kivlehan lined a double to left field that plated Patrick Kivlehan for the club's first run of the evening.

Ji-Man Choi accounted for two of the Rainiers six hits on Tuesday, including an RBI single in the seventh that drove in the team's second and final run. John Hicks also collected a pair of hits, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Chien-Ming Wang (3-3, 4.78) was dealt the loss after surrendering eight runs, seven earned, on 13 hits through 5.0 innings of action. The right-hander fanned three and walked one in his eighth start and ninth appearance with the Rainiers this season.

Relievers Sam Gaviglio (2.0), Mayckol Guiape (1.0), and Danny Farquhar (1.0) combined to hold the Redbirds scoreless on two hits through 4.0 innings of work out of the bullpen.

The Rainiers (61-70) host the final game of a four-game series with the Memphis Redbirds (66-65) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, August 25. Left-hander Tyler Olson (2-4, 5.09) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against Redbirds right-hander Arturo Reyes (0-1, 7.71).
