Charleston RiverDogs News Release

HICKORY, N.C. -- The Charleston RiverDogs' winning streak ended at eight games as their late-game comeback effort was stymied and they fell to the Hickory Crawdads 7-4, Tuesday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Trailing 7-1 and down to their final out in the ninth, the RiverDogs (26-31 second half, 60-67 overall) loaded the bases. Bo Thompson drew a walk to bring Collin Slaybaugh home, and then Billy Fleming followed with a two-run single to left. Austin Aune represented the tying run, but he lined out to center field to end the game.

The Crawdads (31-26, 75-50) got on the board first in the first inning. With runners on first and second with two outs, Jairo Beras lifted a fly ball to right field that dropped in front of Aune and scored Edwin Garcia.

Charleston evened the score in the top of the third. Angel Aguilar hit a one-out double, and then Vince Conde drove him in with an RBI single to left. However, it would be the last run the RiverDogs scored Tuesday night.

Hickory grabbed a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Chuck Moorman hit a solo home run to left field. Carlos Arroyo kept the inning alive with a two-out single to center. Arroyo stole second base and scored on Juremi Profar's RBI single to right.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Crawdads loaded the bases with two outs. Carlos Arroyo was hit by a pitch to increase their lead to 4-1. Profar drew a bases-loaded walk against the new pitcher Philip Walby. Edwin Garcia added two more runs of insurance on an RBI single to right, and Hickory's lead ballooned to 7-1.

Pedro Payano (3-0) earned his third win in four games with the Crawdads. Payano pitched 5 1/3 innings and only allowed one run on five hits. Justin Kamplain (4-14) lost his league-high 14th game. He departed after 5 1/3 innings as well after giving up three runs on nine hits.

The loss put an end to Charleston's season-long eight-game winning streak. It was the longest streak for the RiverDogs since winning nine games in a row in 2008.
