Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

TROY, NY-The Connecticut Tigers (28-31) fell 13-6 to the Tri-City ValleyCats (35-27) on Tuesday night. Connecticut has now lost three games in a row.

Connecticut had a 5-0 lead after three and a half innings only to see Tri-City post a six spot in the bottom of the fourth. Chase Edwards (6-5) had retired 10 of the first 11 batters he faced in the inning but then the wheels fell off. With one out leftfielder Aaron Mizell (1-6) doubled and came around to score on a double from designated hitter Kolbey Carpenter (2-4, 2B, 3B, 2 BB).

At that point things were just getting started. In the inning right fielder Pat Porter lifted a sacrifice fly, catcher Anthony Hermelyn (3-5, 3 RBI) singled in a run, shortstop Keach Ballard (2-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB) singled in a run to make it 5-4. The next batter was Johnny Sewald (1-3, 4 RBI, 2 BB) and gave Tri-City the lead 6-5 with a two RBI double.

Tri-City put the game away in the fifth as they plated three more runs. Hermelyn drove in two with a double and Ballard singled to push the ValleyCat lead to 9-5.

The ValleyCats scored a single run in the seventh and three more in the eighth. The 13 runs scored by Tri-City were the most the Tigers had allowed in a game all year. The previous high was 12 on June 24th against Staten Island.

The Tigers took a 5-0 lead after a two-run home run by Shane Zeile (HR 5) in the second and RBI hits from Pat Mackenzie (2-5, 3 RBI) and Cam Gibson (2-5, 2B, 3B, RBI) in the fourth. The hit from Mackenzie scored two and the Gibson hit was his fourth triple of the year.

Edwards lasted just three and a third innings allowing seven hits and six runs. Connecticut used four pitchers on the night with the bullpen allowing seven runs in three innings.

Zac Person started the game for Tri-City and went three and a third innings giving up two hits and three runs with two strikeouts and three walks. Kevin McCanna (2-2) got the win as he pitched three and two thirds giving up four hits and two runs. Ralph Garza worked the final two innings.

Connecticut will play the third game of a three game series on the road against Tri-City on Wednesday. The first pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
