ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The TinCaps topped the Lugnuts, 3-2. Trae Santos and Franchy Cordero had RBI singles in the second and third, respectively. Josh VanMeter scored on a wild pitch in the fifth.
CHANCE FOR HISTORY: The TinCaps have won 14 games in a row at Parkview Field since, and including, July 17. The franchise record for most consecutive home wins is 15. That mark was set in 2009 from June 6-July 15. The '09 TinCaps went on to win the MWL title and have since produced a Class A record 20 big leaguers.
MAGIC NUMBERS: With 14 games remaining in the regular season, the TinCaps have a magic number of 7 to clinch a playoff spot and a magic number of 11 to win the Eastern Division. Fort Wayne hasn't finished atop the table since 2009. See standings below.
STAYING HOT: The TinCaps have won 8 series in a row overall and are 21-4 over their last 25 games. Over the last 14 series at Parkview Field, Fort Wayne is 12-0-2, and has won 5 straight home series.
PITCHING WINS: The TinCaps are 17-4 this month thanks in large part to a 2.30 ERA - the lowest in the MWL for August.
CORDERO CATCHING FIRE: Franchy Cordero has hit safely in 8 consecutive games - his longest hitting streak of the season. Cordero's current batting average of .241 has been higher only once this year. That was on April 23, when he started the day hitting .256. (A year ago with Short-Season A Eugene, Cordero had an 8-game hitting streak from July 6-14. The longest hitting streak of the 20-year-old's career, 10 games, came in the Arizona League in 2013.)
THE REAL MVP: Lansing 1B/DH Ryan McBroom was voted the MWL's MVP by league managers. But in 11 games against him this year, TinCaps pitchers have held McBroom to a .250 AVG, 0 HR, and 5 RBIs. He's driven in at least 6 runs against everyone else in the division. Only Lake County has held him to a lower AVG (.176).
