Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Charlotte Knights Head Athletic Trainer Scott Johnson has been named as the International League's Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS). The award, which is given annually to one member of each of the 16 leagues in Minor League Baseball, as well as one award for the Dominican Summer League, is the third for Johnson. He also received the award in 2000 and 2001.
"I am very proud to announce PBATS' Minor League Athletic Trainers of the Year," PBATS President Mark O'Neal said. "These athletic trainers made an impact on their entire league and stood out in 2015 as the best at their craft in their respective leagues. I am honored that they all showed the dedication and professionalism it took to keep their players on the field. This group represents the bright future that lies ahead for PBATS."
The 2015 season is the 27th overall for Johnson as a trainer in the Chicago White Sox organization. The Bismarck, North Dakota native is currently in his 13th season with the Charlotte Knights. A graduate of North Dakota State University, Johnson spent 12 seasons with the Knights from 1999-2010 before moving on to Kannapolis (2011-12) and Birmingham (2013-14).
"I'm honored to receive this award," stated Johnson. "I would like to thank the other trainers in the International League for voting for me this season. It truly means a lot knowing that this award has come from my peers."
All 16 league winners, the Dominican Summer League winner and the Minor League Coordinator of the Year will now be eligible for the prestigious Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year award voted upon by the full membership of PBATS. That award will be given at the 2015 Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn.
Single-game tickets for the final five home games of the 2015 regular season are available by phone at 704-274-8282, in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office, or online at charlotteknights.com.
