Lexington County Blowfish News Release

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced today, August 25, that Jordan Kuhns of the Lexington County Blowfish has been named the 2015 CPL Broadcaster of the Year. This was Kuhns' first season with the Blowfish and his first season in the CPL.

"It is a genuine thrill and honor to accept this award," said Kuhns upon hearing he had been selected. "I want to thank Bill Shanahan and the entire Blowfish organization for giving me this opportunity, the fans for voting and the league as a whole for such an amazing experience."

All 56 Blowfish Regular season home and road games plus playoffs were carried "Live" on the radio-broadcasting on Z93.1FM The Lake. In addition you could listen to games on the CPL Web Pass on the internet.

"Jordan was absolutely fantastic!" said Blowfish owner Bill Shanahan. "What an incredible voice and smooth delivery. Jordan is so passionate to have made each broadcast for our listeners so special! Plus, he's a real team player. A big thank you also goes out to Z93.1FM for providing the platform in which the thousands of Lexington County Blowfish fans got to listen and share in all the excitement this first season!"

Kuhns is a graduate of Millersville University were he obtained a bachelors degree in Speech Communication with a broadcasting focus in the spring of 2012. During his time at Millersville, Kuhns worked as the broadcaster for the entire athletics department, including holding the honor as the first ever Millersville Hockey broadcaster. Before joining the CPL for the 2015 summer, Kuhns also worked for ESPN Williamsport covering games for Misericordia University.

Sighting a true love for the art of calling a game, Kuhns was drawn to the idea of being able to be etched in a fan's memory like some of his own role models in the industry are for him, such as Mike Emrick and Harry Kalas.

"There's a certain thrill in having the honor to tell the story of a game that fans will remember forever," said Kuhns. "That's what brought me into broadcasting, that chance to present the game in a way that people would rally around."

Fans of both the Blowfish and around the league clearly felt this passion and rallied around Kuhns, sending in hundreds of votes for him in the Broadcaster of the Year voting. Fans noted his dedication to the game, as Kuhns was one of the few broadcasters to travel to all of the team's away games throughout the year, as well as his distinct voice and ability to paint a picture of the game with his words.

In addition to the fans, Kuhns drew the praise of CPL Director of Broadcasting and current voice of the Duke Blue Devils, Chris Edwards.

"It was obvious from opening day that Jordan has the voice, passion, knowledge of the game of baseball and a conversational style that makes him very easy to listen to," noted Edwards. "Baseball is a game that is made for radio and Jordan did an exceptional job of painting a visual picture for his listeners allowing them to feel as though they were sitting with a friend just watching a game."

His talent is clear to everyone, and it was no surprise to hear he has already secured a job for the upcoming hockey season as the voice of the Dubuque Fighting Saints in Dubuque, Iowa.

"Next to baseball, hockey has always been the dream for me so this is an exciting opportunity to say the least," let on Kuhns. "My time in the CPL really prepared me for this next phase of my career and I will forever be grateful for this experience."
