ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, have announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Joe Basaraba for the 2015-16 season.
Basaraba, 23, spent the majority of the 2014-15 season with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones, appearing in 39 games and logging 26 points (13g-13g) and 27 penalty minutes. He also tallied one assist and added eight penalty minutes in 22 games with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage.
The 6-foot-3, 194-pound Basaraba made his professional debut at the end of the 2013-14 season with the Cyclones, recording five points (1g-4a) and two penalty minutes in 10 games, after wrapping up four-year collegiate career with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where the native of Fort Frances, Ontario helped the Bulldogs capture the National Championship during the 2010-11 season. In 148 career games at UMD, Basaraba totaled 56 points (28g-28a) and 153 penalty minutes.
Basaraba was selected by the Florida Panthers in the third round (69th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
