Nashville Sounds News Release

RENO, Nev. - Aaron Brooks dominated in Sunday's series opener and the Nashville offense smashed 21 hits, as the Sounds won their fourth straight by beating the Reno Aces at Aces Ballpark, 8-4.

In just his second start as a Sound, Brooks came out firing. He retired 10 straight to open the contest and mastered the Aces through seven innings. Reno collected just three hits off the right-hander and was victim to the strikeout eight different times. Brooks never allowed a walk and lowered his ERA to 3.56 in PCL play before being relieved in the eighth. The win improved his record to 8-6.

The Sounds offense followed the lead of their starting pitcher and finished the night with a season-high 21 hits. Eight of the nine players in the Sounds lineup posted multi-hit games, led by Brent Morel's game-high four hits.

Nashville jumped out to a 2-0 lead with RBIs from Joey Wendle in the third and Craig Gentry in the fourth. They doubled the advantage in the sixth courtesy of a Bryan Anderson double and Tyler Ladendorf RBI single. After Brooks gave up his only run in the sixth, the score stood at 4-1.

The game was broken open in the eighth when the Sounds plated three and took firm control. Morel doubled to lead off, his seventh two-bagger in the last nine games, and scored on Anderson's single to right. Ladendorf, Wendle and Ryan Roberts all followed with singles, boosting the lead to 7-1.

Reno made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth by putting up three runs off reliever Aaron Kurcz, but R.J. Alvarez entered to finish the job, leaving the bags packed and the tying run at the plate to seal the victory.

Nashville had a hit in every inning but the first and finished the game 9-for-18 with runners in scoring position. Wendle, Anderson and Ladendorf all drove in two runs and Morel scored a game-high three runs. The 21 hits trumped the Sounds former season high of 19, which occurred on April 10 at Colorado Springs.

The Sounds seek to make it five straight wins on Monday night at Aces Ballpark. Nashville's Zach Neal (7-8, 3.79) will throw against Reno's Caleb Clay (7-7, 5.43) in the 9:05 p.m. contest.
