Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Tyler Danish earned his first win since July 15 as the Barons (64-60, 31-24) disposed of the Jacksonville Suns (51-74, 22-34) 6-2 Sunday evening at Regions Field.

Danish (8-10, 4.58 ERA) pitched five innings of five-hit baseball to earn the victory for Birmingham. He gave up just two runs (one earned), while striking out one. Jacksonville's Scott Lyman (1-9, 6.72 ERA) took the loss.

The Barons improved to 50-8 when scoring first, as Birmingham wasted no time getting on the board with a first-inning run. Tim Anderson reached base and came around to score on a Christian Marrero sacrifice fly.

The Suns immediately struck back in the next half inning tying the game at one, but stranded two base runners as Danish would induce a ground ball to get out of the inning. The Barons' offense answered the call in the bottom half of the second, stringing together three consecutive one-out base hits. Adrian Nieto plated Joey DeMichele with his single, and Marcus Lemon scored off an error to account for the two runs in the second.

Birmingham padded the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits. Christian Marrero tallied two more RBI with his single that scored Jacob May and Nick Delmonico.

Danish exited after pitching five innings, and the bullpen provided nearly-perfect relief to get the Barons back in the win column. Tim Crabbe pitched three innings and gave up three hits, while Peter Tago got the Suns to go down in order in the ninth to complete the game.

In all, the Barons recorded 10 hits on the night, the 42nd time this season that the Birmingham bats have exploded for 10 or more hits. Marrero led the offensive output for the Barons, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Birmingham kept pace with Montgomery with tonight's win, remaining 2.5 games behind the Biscuits for the top spot in the North division.

ON DECK

Game two of the series with the Suns is set for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch Monday night. Birmingham will throw right-hander Matt Heidenreich (0-0, 6.00 ERA), while Jacksonville will counter with left-handed Jarlin Garcia (0-1, 3.74 ERA).
