Louisville Bats News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga - The Louisville Bats (60-69) were swept in the four game series by the Gwinnett Braves (70-68), 5-4 at Coolray Field. Sunday's loss put the Bats nine games under .500, a season worst.
Gwinnett took the first lead of the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third by Todd Cunningham. Left-hander Tony Cingrani (0-1, 2.05) exited the game after three innings, giving up four hits, two earned runs, he walked one and struck out one. Relieving him in the fourth inning was righty, Donovan Hand.
The Braves and Bats played run for run for three innings. Starting in the top of the fifth, Louisville tied up the ballgame after Kyle Waldrop got on base due to a fielding error by the Braves centerfielder. Hernan Iribarren singled home Waldrop to cut the lead in half, Iribarren moved to second base after a sac bunt from Hand, and Kristopher Negron tied it up with an RBI double.
The Braves answered back quickly in the home half of the fifth with another RBI by Cunningham to lead 3-2 and the Bats did as well in the top of the sixth to tie it back up at 3-3 with a force out by Adam Duvall.
Ramon Cabrera singled in Bryson Smith in the top of the seventh to take the 4-3 lead, making that Cabrera's second hit of the game. Yet the Braves climbed back on top in the bottom of the seventh with Cunningham's fourth RBI and an RBI single from Joey Terdoslavich. They stayed on top 5-4 and swept the Bats in the four game series.
Right-hander Drew Hayes (L, 4-4, 2.81) takes the loss for the Bats and righty Josh Hursh (W, 1-0, 6.43) earned his first win for the Braves.
Left-hander Greg Smith (6-4, 2.39) went six innings for the Braves, he gave up seven hits, three runs just one of those earned, walked two and struck out two. Righty Ryan Kelly earned the save, his 12th of the season.
Tomorrow the Bats will travel to Indianapolis to face the Indians at 7:05 p.m. On the bump for Louisville will be righty Josh Smith (3-4, 3.88) and for the Indians, righty Wilfredo Boscan (9-3, 3.07).
