Louisville City FC News Release

Louisville, KY - With the help of a pair of Matt Fondy goals, Louisville City FC (13-4-6, 45 points) defeated the Charleston Battery (9-6-9, 36 points) by a score of 3-1 Saturday night in front of 7,850 fans, the second highest attendance at Louisville Slugger Field this year.

The action kicked off with a tough collision in the fifth minute, when Conor Shanosky collided with Juan Guzman, taking Shanosky out of the game for two minutes, bringing City to ten players.

Charleston's best chance in the first half came in the 33rd minute when Dane Kelly struck a ball that flew just wide of the post.

At the end of a somewhat stale first half, the lone goal came when a Bryan Burke cross connected with Fondy who planted his header in the back of the net. The halftime whistle would come shortly after with the score 1-0 in favor of City.

The second half brought more action, after a long run by Aodhan Quinn up the left side, the midfielders shot ricocheted off the goalkeepers hands bouncing out to Rasmussen who pounced on the rebound. Rasmussen slammed it into the corner of the net, bringing Lou City's lead to 2-0 in the 75th minute.

Fondy's second goal came on a well angled shot from the right side of the field inside of the box, brining the score to 3-0 City in the 82nd minute.

Louisville City's bid for a clean sheet came up just short when in the 85th Michael Chang settled an over-the-top ball and fired off a shot past a sprawling Scott Goodwin.

Before the first kick, The Coopers, City's support group pitched in on the national anthem by singing the entirety of our nations song after microphone complications. Soon after the whole south end joined in on the singing which was a memorable moment in the short but already storied history for the group.

City now remains firm in second place for the USL East Conference, nine points ahead of tonight's opponent Charleston and five points behind first place Rochester. Louisville will look for much of the same as they welcome MLS team Orlando City SC to town Tuesday, August 25th.
