Senators Parlay Nine-Run First Inning into a 12-1 Win over Portland

The Harrisburg Senators erupted for nine runs in the first inning on their way to a 12-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Saturday night at Metro Bank Park in front of 6,834 fans. Harrisburg (60-65) rapped out 15 hits on the way to their fourth straight victory.

Denard Span began the game with his second straight leadoff walk. Dan Uggla followed with a long home run that caromed off the top of the Carousel Pavilion beyond left-center field to give the Senators a 2-0 lead. Harrisburg had six straight singles in the inning that saw them send 14 batters to the plate. Dating back to 2005, it was only the fourth time the Senators have scored nine runs in an inning.

Every Senator in the starting lineup had at least one hit and scored at least one run. Rehabbing major leaguers Span and Uggla combined to go 5-for-9 with two home runs, four runs scored, and five driven in. Wilmer Difo, Brian Goodwin, and Chris Bostick each pitched in two hits apiece.

Harrisburg starter Austin Voth labored through five innings allowing only one run on five hits and one walk. Voth (5-6) also struck out six batters adding to his Eastern League-leading total. Dakota Bacus, Nick Lee, and Erik Davis combined to throw four scoreless innings to close out the victory.

The Senators go for their second sweep of the season on Sunday afternoon with Brian Rauh on the mound, starting at 1:30 p.m. The pregame show wil begin at 1:15 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
