Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Dyllon Nuernberg threw a one-hit shutout in his first start since 2013 as the ThunderBolts won game two of a doubleheader 2-0 at Wuerfel Park Friday night.
The Traverse City Beach Bums took game one 6-5 in extra innings.
Max White put the ThunderBolts on the board in the first inning with a two-run single, driving in Coco Johnson and Austin Gallagher.
The Bolts added single runs in each of the next three innings. Alex Chittenden picked up an RBI single and an error and double play brought in the other runs to make it 5-1.
Traverse City came back to tie the score in the sixth. With two runs already in, Kendall Patrick hit a two-run homer to make it a 5-5 game.
The Beach Bums won the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Reggie Lawson singled and pinch runner Greg Harisis was at second with two outs when DeBlieux delivered the game-winner.
Alan Oaks (3-2) pitched a perfect inning for the win and Joel Lima (3-5) took the loss.
Game two was dominated by pitching with no score through four innings. Each team had only one hit. That changed when Ransom LaLonde doubled to lead off the fifth. He scored on a two-out single for Chittenden.
White collected his third RBI of the doubleheader when he singled home Mike Torres in the sixth to make the score 2-0.
Nuernberg walked the first two batters he faced in the game but retired three straight and saw little trouble the rest of the way. The Beach Bums' only hit was a DeBlieux single in the third. Traverse City never got a man to third and only three times had a runner reach second base as Nuernberg walked four and struck out eight in the win.
Nuernberg (1-0) threw his first career complete game for the victory while Alex Phillips (2-4) allowed two runs in four innings for the loss.
The series continues on Saturday evening with game three at Wuerfel Park. Jake Fisher (4-6, 5.31) will start for Windy City against Traverse City's Michael Shreves (7-2, 2.74). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 and the broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
