Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce their seventh player signing of the 2015 offseason. Wheeling has signed forward Christophe Lalancette to an ECHL contract.
Lalancette, 21, will be making his professional debut in October, after spending parts of five seasons playing junior hockey with the QMJHL's Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Drummondville Voltigeurs. Christophe's burst onto the junior scene came in 2011-12, when he appeared in 63 games with the Titan, producing 16 goals, 31 assists, and 47 points. That performance helped him to a fourth round selection (109th overall pick) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks. The following year, Lalancette set his career high in goals with 18, before a 2013 trade led him to Drummondville, where he racked up a 59 points in 2013-14. Overall, the Roberval, Quebec native appeared in 237 games, collecting 61 goals, 129 assists, 190 points, and 126 penalty minutes.
"Christophe is a good skater, who brings a lot of energy to the rink, as well as a high compete level," said Nailers Head Coach Clark Donatelli. "Last year, he went to rookie camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and after seeing him there, I believe that he will fit in with our system and the way we play."
The 6-foot-1, 187-pound forward has attended a National Hockey League camp in each of the three seasons since he was drafted. In 2012 and 2013, that experience came in San Jose, while in 2014, he was invited to rookie camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Christophe Lalancette and the Nailers will begin the 2015-16 regular season with a two-game series in Norfolk on October 16th and 17th, before the home opener at WesBanco Arena on October 24th against Brampton at 7:35.
