New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

SACRAMENTO, CA - Jarrett Parker picked up three hits including a first inning two out RBI single to lead the River Cats to a 2-0 shutout win over the New Orleans Zephyrs.

Sacramento starter Tommy Hanson had lost five of his eight starts this season with a 7.71 ERA but on Wednesday night he was sharp. The former Major Leaguer pitched seven innings allowed just two hits, issued one walk and had seven strikeouts and earned his second win of the season.

The River Cats scored a first inning run and added an insurance run in the eighth inning. New Orleans reliever Greg Nappo allowed back to back hits and Mac Williamson drove home the run with a sacrifice fly. Z's starter Ivan Pineyro suffered the defeat, pitched seven innings and allowed one run on seven hits.

The Z's had three doubles in the game including a lead-off double in the ninth inning but closer Mike Broadway nailed down his 13th save. The previous night New Orleans scored 12 runs on 18 hits but were shutout and limited to four hits on Wednesday.

Sacramento won their tenth consecutive game. The Z's continue to struggle dropping their eleventh consecutive and 19 of their last 21 games. Sacramento is 62-63, Zephyrs drop to 51-74.

GAME NOTES

The Z's were held to two runs or fewer for the 52nd time this year, two shy of the club record established in 2013. The Z's were blanked for the tenth time, tied with three other clubs for most in the PCL.

New Orleans has added third baseman Zack Cox from AA Jacksonville and reliever Jorge De Leon, who was signed by Miami after being released by the Dodgers last week. Cox, who hit .282 in 104 games with the Z's last year, was third in the Southern League with a .321 batting average for the Suns. De Leon spent most of the season at AA Tulsa, posting a 3.80 ERA in 34 appearances. In corresponding moves, left-handers Matt Tomshaw and Fabian Williamson have been transferred to Double-A

The Z's will add pitcher Jake Esch from Jacksonville today to make the start.

New Orleans dropped its season-high eleventh consecutive game, the longest losing streak since a club-record 13-game skid from July 11-26, 2009. The Z's are on their third losing streak of at least six games, all since the All-Star break.

ON DECK

The Zephyrs continue the eight game road trip Thursday night in Sacramento, California. The Z's will turn to RHP Jake Esch (0-1, 5.23) vs. RHP Clayton Blackburn (6-3, 3.28). The game will be broadcast on WMTI 106.1 FM and streamed at www.1061neworleans.com and on The Ticket App.

The Zephyrs return home for the final homestand of the season on Sunday, August 23rd against Las Vegas.
