Big Innings Propel Bees over LumberKings

(Burlington-IA)- The Burlington Bees (53-67) fell behind early but used three big innings to down the Clinton LumberKings (38-82) 10-3 on Wednesday night, at Community Field.

For the second straight night, the Clinton LumberKings to the lead first. With two outs, Burt Reynolds smashed a solo home run to right, his second of the series, giving Clinton a 1-0 lead.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, the Bees sent nine hitters to the plate. Ayendy Perez kicked off the frame with a bunt single and moved to second base on an error on the pitcher, Jarrett Brown. Perez went on to tie the game, stealing third base and scoring on a throwing error on the catcher, Wayne Taylor, tying the game at one. After a pair of walks, the Bees had runners at first and second with two outs. Zach Houchins gave the Bees the lead with a single to center, scoring Arakawa and Wass who scored on a throwing error, making the score, 3-1. Trevor Gretzky capped of the inning by lining a single to right field, scoring Houchins, upping the Bees' lead to 4-1.

After Clinton pulled to within a run at 4-3 the Bees put together another long inning, sending eight hitters to the plate, scoring a pair of runs on a double by Trever Allen, scoring Taylor Ward, and an Ayendy Perez single which scored Allen, extending the Bees' lead to 6-3.

The Bees put together another big inning, this time in the bottom of the seventh inning, batting nine for the second time. The Bees would score four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two run single by Taylor Ward, pushing the lead to 10-3. Wade Wass joined the hit parade with a RBI single in the eighth inning, capping off the 11-3 win.

Gaither Bumgardner (2-0) picked up the win in relief while Jarrett Brown (2-7) was charged with the loss. Ayendy Perez reached base six times in the game collecting a pair of hits, walking four times, and scoring three runs. The Bees and the LumberKings finish the series Thursday night at 6:30 when Michael Bolaski starts for the Bees against Eddie Campbell for the LumberKings.
