HOUSTON (Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015) - The Houston Dynamo and Kroger have partnered to recognize local educators in the Houston community through the Classroom Champs initiative. Nominations for outstanding teachers may be submitted through Sept. 9 at www.HoustonDynamo.com/Charities/ClassroomChamps.

From the group of nominees, five educators will be selected as Classroom Champs based on merit with one being named the grand prize winner. Each of the winners' schools will receive a financial grant from Dynamo Charities, game tickets, and recognition at halftime of a future Dynamo game. The four runners-up will each receive a Kroger gift card. The top Classroom Champ will receive a 4-minute shopping spree at Kroger with a Dynamo player.

"We are honored to partner with Kroger in recognizing the area's most inspirational educators," Dynamo executive vice president Steven Powell said. "Each of us has a teacher who we credit with inspiring us to be a better student and more importantly, better people. We hope this program will recognize some of Houston's best teachers."

Additionally, the five persons who nominate the five Classroom Champ winners will also receive tickets to the Dynamo game at which their nominees will be honored.

"We're excited to introduce the Classroom Champs initiative, in alignment with the start of the new school year, which gives the opportunity for our city's most-deserving K-12 educators to be recognized for the work they do in and out of the classroom," said Kristal Howard, public relations manager for Kroger. "We look forward to growing this inaugural program and shining the spotlight on those making a difference in education."
