Claws Drop 3rd Straight, Fall 8-2 to Shorebirds on Tuesday

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Delmarva used a three-run third inning and got 6.2 innings of one run ball from Josh Walker to top the BlueClaws 8-2 on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park, handing the BlueClaws their third straight loss.

The loss, Lakewood's fourth in the last five days against Delmarva, drops them to 28-23/61-58 on the season. Delmarva, who improved to 26-25/58-61 on the year, is now 13-4 against the BlueClaws in 2015.

Delmarva opened the scoring with a three-run third inning off Austin Davis. An RBI double by TJ Olesczuk made it 1-0 and Yermin Mercedes added a two-run double to put the Shorebirds up 3-0. The BlueClaws got one back in the home third on an RBI single by Drew Stankiewicz off the Delmarva starter Josh Walker.

The Shorebirds added two more runs in the fourth, with one scoring on an error and another on an RBI double by Ronarsy Ledesma.

Walker came out with two outs in the seventh inning, with Max Schuh, who allowed an RBI single to Scott Kingery before getting Kyle Martin to end the inning. Walker was charged with two runs over 6.2 innings of work.

BlueClaws starter Austin Davis gave up five runs over six innings and took the loss to fall to 3-5 on the season. Scott Harris allowed two runs in the eighth to put the Shorebirds up 7-2.

Herlis Rodriguez singled in the seventh inning to extend his hitting streak to 19 games, just five off of the franchise record set by Jiwan James in 2010. Jiandido Tromp had two hits for the BlueClaws as well.

The series with Delmarva concludes on Wednesday night. LHP Elniery Garcia (7-9) starts for Lakewood against a to-be-announced starting pitcher.
