Sioux City Explorers News Release

The Sioux City Explorers swept the four game series vs the T-Bones, winning the final game of the doubleheader 3-2 off a walk-off single by Noah Perio Jr.

Kansas City plated the first run of the game in the third inning. Jacob Hayes doubled with one out and scored off a Sergio Leon RBI single to take the early 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, Jake Blackwood led-off the top half with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a fielders choice, extending their lead 2-0 after four innings of play.

X's put up their first run in the sixth inning. X's second baseman Ryan Court ripped the first pitch he saw in the gap for a triple, putting him in scoring position to score off a wild pitch.

In the seventh and final inning, X's left fielder Tim Colwell singled to start the inning. Colwell then stole second base, moved to third on a Matty Johnson ground out and scored the tying run on a base-hit single by Brent Keys to tie it 2-2.

Later in the seventh, X's designated hitter Brock Kjeldgaard worked up a one out walk, advancing Keys in scoring position at second base. On the next at-bat X's shortstop Noah Perio Jr, ripped a game winning walk-off single to score Keys from second, and make it 3-2.

Explorers starter Patrick Johnson (12-1) received the win, pitching the complete (seven inning) game with two runs allowed on five hits, one walk and six strikeouts. Kansas City staring pitcher Josh Tols (1-0) got the no decision going four innings without a run allowed. T-Bones right-hander Fernando Hernandez was charged with the loss, allowing three runs in the final inning.

Sioux City will head to St. Paul tomorrow in a three game series vs the Saints (August 18-21st). For additional information, please call 712-277-WINS (9467) or email promotions@xsbaseball.com.
