Austin Bragg Heading Back Overseas

August 17, 2015 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Former Western Washington University and Bellingham Slam center Austin Bragg is continuing his basketball career following the signing of his second professional contract overseas.

Bragg has joined the Artland Dragons, a team which competes in Germany's third-tier ProB league.

This will be the second foray into competing abroad for Bragg. The 6-foot-9 Longview, Wash., native played a portion of the 2014-15 season in Slovenia with the Helios Suns before he was sidelined by an injury.

Prior to signing his first overseas contact, Bragg suited up for the Bellingham Slam in 2014 and played a key role in helping the team capture its third straight International Basketball League championship. He earned Most Valuable Player honors in the title game win over the Vancouver Volcanoes with a dominant 27 point, 12 rebound performance, in what would turn out to be the Slam's final game in the IBL before the league suspended operations.

Before joining the Slam, Bragg was a two-year starter at WWU, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding as a senior with averages of 17 points and 9 rebounds per game. He became just the second player in school history to record a triple-double in a game with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists on February 1, 2014, versus the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

In high school, Bragg was a standout athlete at Mark Morris and initially enrolled at Washington State University, where he redshirted for one season before transferring to Clark College and eventually WWU.

Other former Viking and Slam players who have competed in Germany's ProB league include Tyler Amaya and Derrick Webb.

Bragg's regular season with the Dragons tips off on September 26 and continues to early May.
