Medicine Hat, AB -- Canada is bringing home the gold after defeating Sweden 7-3 in Saturday's gold medal game at the 2015 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in Breclav. It will be David Quenneville and Shaun Clouston's second consecutive gold medal at these championships.

"The tournament was a great experience for me, I had a ton of fun playing with some of my friends and am very grateful for the opportunity to put on the Canadian sweater," said Quenneville via text on Monday morning.

Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 Team has won the annual tournament eight consecutive years - winning 36 of 38 games over that span - and has won 20 of 25 summer tournaments since 1991.

The tournament is a great preparation tool for the youngsters of the CHL as it prepares them for their rookie seasons or for some, like Quenneville their second season in the league, "I think just the opportunity to play against some of the best players in my age category can help prepare you for the season because it is similar to regular season action. You're always training and getting ready," said Quenneville.

The tournament also marked the second time in a row that Head Coach and General Manager Shaun Clouston was behind the bench for Team Canada. Quenneville logged good minutes during the regular season as a 16 year old rookie when the Tigers had injuries to the backend, and his coaches confidence in the Edmonton native showed at the Hlinka tournament, "To have him behind the bench, we could talk about certain plays and certain situations just like it was a Tiger game. Having the relationship with him already was just great."

Canada finished a perfect 5-0 in the tournament, outscoring its opposition 23-7.

Quenneville and Clouston will now head back to Medicine Hat this upcoming week to get set for the 46th annual Tigers training camp which will kick start the 2015-16 campaign.
