Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks are playing as well as any other team in the American Association as they team has won six of their last eight games. Two key players in the recent run have been recognized by the league as CF Drew Muren and RHP Mike Nesseth have been named the American Association Pointstreak Player and Pitcher of the Week for August 10-16.

Muren was named the Player of the Week for his torrid hitting. Already amongst the league's elite defensively in centerfield, Muren batted .467 in the past week. Currently in the midst of a ten game hit streak, he went 14-for-30 including five doubles and one home run. Muren also tallied six runs scored and five runs batted in. Muren walked three times and had an on-base percentage of .543 to go with a slugging percentage of .733 in the past seven games.

As aforementioned, Muren has been highly touted for his play in the outfield this season. Muren has had the most total chances for putouts in the league with 219 balls hit in his direction, and he has recorded the out 208 times for a fielding percentage of .945. He also has the most double plays of any outfielder in the American Association, having made three twin-killings this season.

Mike Nesseth was named Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for his stellar shut down pitching in relief. He appeared in three games, all in extra innings, over the past week for Fargo-Moorhead, going 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA. In 4.2 innings of work, he allowed just six hits while batters averaged .333 against him.

In his first appearance of the week on August 10, he was summoned to close out the bottom of the 11th in an extra innings game at Kansas City. Nesseth allowed just one hit while striking out one en route to his team-leading 12th save of the season.

Nesseth pitched the 11th inning the next night against Gary, but his performance in the opening game of the Winnipeg series was where he really shined. He came on in relief at the end of the eighth inning and would finish the game on the hill for the RedHawks. The Goldeyes had stormed back from a three run deficit and had taken a one-run lead before Nesseth entered the game. Fargo-Moorhead would score a run in the top of the ninth and Nesseth pitched a scoreless frame in the home half of the inning sending it to extras. Joe Bonfe would drive in two on a triple and would then score on a throwing error giving Nesseth the cushion he needed in the bottom of the tenth. He would toss a scoreless inning in the bottom of the tenth; earning him his first win of the season after going 2.2 innings allowing just four hits with a strikeout.

The RedHawks are back in action tonight as they begin a four game series with the Lincoln Saltdogs at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. First pitch is set for 7:02 p.m., with Scott Miller and Jack Michaels on the call on 740 AM The Fan.
