Drillers Blanked 9-0 in Road Trip Finale

August 16, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release

The Tulsa Drillers closed out a six-game road trip in Texas with a 9-0 loss Sunday afternoon to the Midland RockHounds. The defeat left the Drillers with a 3-3 record on the trip and dropped them 1 ½ games behind first-place Springfield in the North Division standings of the Texas League, pending the Cardinals game on Sunday night.

The Drillers will now return home for a six-game homestand at ONEOK Field. After an off day on Monday, they will host the Frisco RoughRiders Tuesday evening in the first game of a three-game set.

Tulsa was unable to generate anything offensively in Sunday's loss after falling behind early. The RockHounds opened the scoring in the second inning on doubles by Chad Pinder and Beau Taylor off Drillers' starter Eric Stults.

Midland expanded its lead to 4-0 with three more runs in the third. Pinder singled home one run, and Matt Olson followed with a two-run double.

Olson struck again in the fifth with a two-run homer off reliever Deck McGuire.

One inning later, Josh Whitaker singled in the seventh run for the RockHounds, before Jaycob Brugman capped their nine-run day with a two-run double in the seventh off Daniel Tillman.

Olson did much of the damage against Tulsa pitchers, finishing 3-4 with four runs batted in. Pinder also added three hits and an RBI.

Midland out-hit Tulsa 13-5 as no Drillers player had more than one hit in the game.

Stults was charged with four runs in four innings to suffer the loss that dropped his record to 3-3.

Manager Razor Shines was ejected by home plate umpire Sean Allen in the bottom of the sixth inning after McGuire was called for a balk.

Tuesday's opener with Frisco will be a 2 Works For You $2 Tuesday with $2 Lawn Tickets and $2 selected concession items. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM in downtown Tulsa. The game will mark the beginning of the next-to-last homestand of the 2015 regular season for the Drillers.
