Kjeldgaard Goes 5 For 5 With Victory Over Kansas City

The Sioux City Explorers scored five quick runs in the first inning and never looked back, going on to win their fifty-ninth game of the season, with the 9-3 victory over Kansas City at Lewis and Clark Park.,

The Explorers homer twice and double twice in the first inning to take the quick 5-0 lead after an inning of play. Brock Kjeldgaard homered with a man on for the first two runs. Noah Perio Jr hit a solo-shot for the third, and Tommy Mendonca and Matt Koch doubled with runners on to score the final three.

Sioux City extended it even further in the second and third innings. In the second, X's designated hitter Brock Kjeldgaard grabbed two more RBIs with a two-run single, giving the X's the 7-0 lead. Tim Colwell doubled in the third to give Sioux City the even 8-0 lead after three innings.

Another RBI double from Tommy Mendonca added a run for the Explorers with their tenth run of the game. Kansas City went on to score three runs in the seventh and eighth innings but went on to fall 9-3 to the Explorers at Lewis and Clark Park.

Explorers starter Ryan Zimmerman (12-2) received the win going 6.2 solid innings with two runs allowed on five hits, five walks while recording three strikeouts. T-Bones starter Dustin Loggins (0-2) was charged with the loss giving up nine runs on fourteen hits in four innings pitched.

Explorers designated hitter Brock Kjeldgaard had the game of his life at the plate, going 5 for 5 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a homer. X's third baseman Tommy Mendonca had a three hit, two RBI, two runs scored night, while Noah Perio and Matty Johnson both finished with two hits. Perio homered in the game as well.
