Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
BRECLAV, Czech Republic - A great day for Canada and three members of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings. Pierre-Luc Dubois of Cape Breton scored the first two of four first period goals, leading Canada's National Men's Summer Under 18 Team to a convincing 7-3 win over Sweden in Saturday's Gold Medal Game at the U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in the Czech Republic. The win gave Team Canada its eighth consecutive championship at the prestigious international tournament that featured a dramatic Overtime Shootout win over Russia in Friday's Semi-Final. Brandon center Nolan Patrick, who scored Friday's shootout winner, picked up an assist in the game for the Canadian team that outshot Sweden 35-18. Patrick was one of three members of the Wheat Kings that will be returning home with a Gold Medal, joining defenceman Kale Clague and forward Tanner Kaspick, who had a goal and two points for the winners on Saturday. Dubois led the Canadian entry with three points while Kaspick was one of three players to have two points. Team Canada finished the night 2 for 5 with the man advantage and led the game 4-0 and 6-1 at the period breaks. The Canadian team will now return home and the players will begin preparations for the start of their respective training camps at the end of this month.
