Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads (20-29, 55-64) defeated the St. Lucie Mets in both games of tonight's double- header matchup. After weather suspended the contest on August 13 in the bottom of the first, the remainder of the game was made up in game one of tonight's doubleheader. Jupiter won game one by a score of 7 - 5, and walked off in extras in game two by a score of 2 - 1.

On Thursday, August 13, five outs were recorded prior to the game being called. In the top of the first, St. Lucie got off to a hot start scoring the first run of the game. The Hammerheads answered by scoring one in the home half of the inning. A day later, the Hammerheads continued their momentum scoring another run in the bottom of the second. The scoring continued into the third inning, where the Hammerheads tacked on two more runs after a St. Lucie error. Sacrifice flies from Harold Riggins and Felix Munoz put Jupiter up 4 - 1. By the bottom of the seventh, the Mets were slowly gaining ground of the Hammerheads, but two more runs that inning sealed the deal for Jupiter in game one.

In game two, a late inning seventh inning rally tied the score at one to force extras. In the bottom of the seventh, Brian Anderson led off the inning with a single to center field, and then advanced on James Roberts' sacrifice bunt. Blake Barber stepped to the plate to find the gap in deep center field to make it safely to third. After a misplayed catch, Barber decided to go for the win by hustling home, but was tagged out to be out number two in the inning.

An inning later, the Hammerheads found the same stride with Cameron Flynn out running an infield hit to start the bottom of the eighth. With two outs and runners on first and second, Avery Romero found the green in center field to win it for the Hammerheads, completing the doubleheader sweep.

Drew Steckenrider, who started game one after Jose Adames pitched one inning on August 13, earned the win, his second of the year. In game two, Esmerling De La Rosa earned his sixth win after three innings of relief.

The Hammerheads will complete the series with the Mets on August 15 with first pitched scheduled for 5:35 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630-1828 or visit RogerDeanStadium.com.
