Anchors blow early lead again, fall to Mallards

Madison, Wisc. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the Madison Mallards Wednesday night at Warner Park by a score of 10-3. The Anchors are now 16-17 in the second half and 28-40 on the season.

Dane Hutcheon started the ballgame off with a walk and went to second on Drew Fearing's single. Merrigan hit a double to left field and it brought home both runners. An error by the left fielder allowed Merrigan to reach third and Trooper Reynolds brought him home with a one-out knock putting Alexandria ahead 3-0 in the first.

Madison got their offense started in the fourth against Tyler Hasper. Jonathan Quintana doubled to start the inning and he scored on J.J. Gould's double. A fly out and wild pitcher later, Chris Tschida and Charlie Cody walked to load the bases. After the second out was recorded, Matt McCann walked in a run and the Anchors went to their bullpen. Ciji Ramos hit Tony Butler with a pitch and scoring one run. Ramos had a bout of wildness which led to three more runs for the Mallards and by the end of the fourth, Madison had a 5-3 lead.

The Mallards added to their lead in the seventh against Austin Cornish. Anthony Gonsolin walked and went to second when Quintana was hit by a pitch. Another single by Bryce Carter loaded the bases. Tschida brought him Gonsolin for the first run of the inning. Catchers interference was called on a swing by Charlie Cody scoring Quintana. Joel Zyhowski followed with an RBI base hit which prompted a pitching change. McCann would reach on an error scoring two runs making the score 10-3.

Hasper (2-3) took the loss going 3.2 innings giving up five runs on three hits and five walks with two strikeouts. Ramos finished the evening with 1.1 scoreless allowing a hit with one strikeout. Cornish gave up five runs, three earned, on three hits and a walk with two punch outs. Eric White finished the seventh throwing 2/3 scoreless striking out two hitters and walking one. George Faue pitched a scoreless ninth by walking a batter and picking up two strikeouts.

Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Josh Merrigan (OF) - The Anchors all-star outfielder finished the game going two-for-four at the dish with a run and an RBI. He raised his average to .296 this summer.

Notes: The Anchors return home for the final home stand of the season start Thursday against the Eau Claire Express on Thursday...The first 100 fans through the gates will get a 2015 team photo...It's also Wine, Women and Baseball presented by Definitive Magazine...For just $20 women in attendance will get a ticket on the Alex Brick & Stone Terrace, wine, beverages, hotdogs, brats, burgers, chips and popcorn along with amazing vendors, personal pampering stations, games and prizes which will start at 6:05 pm...It's Social Media Thursday as well and fans can look at the team's Facebook and Twitter for a special deal at the park...The game, starting at 7:05, can be seen live at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/nwl.
