M-Braves Walkoff Via Sac Fly in 11 Innings

PEARL, MS -- Down 6-2 early in the game, the Mississippi Braves fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth and force extra innings for the second straight night at Trustmark Park. The Braves walked off via David Rohm sacrifice fly in the 11th to defeat the Montgomery Biscuits 7-6 Tuesday. The series continues Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

Mississippi (21-17, 54-52) plated seven runs on seven hits while Montgomery (21-16, 55-50) scored six runs on 13 hits. The Biscuits jumped out to a 6-2 lead but the Braves fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth and force extra-innings. In the top of the 10th, Tyler Goeddel doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch but Ryne Harper retired the next three batters to work out of the jam.

Emerson Landoni walked to lead off the 11th. He took second and third on a strikeout, wild pitch before Rohm delivered a game-winning sacrifice fly to right field. Rohm finished the night 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a couple of walks and three RBI. Jason Hursh (3-6) came on in the 11th and worked a scoreless inning to pick up the win. Mark Sappington (3-5) took the loss.

The scoring started early when the Biscuits jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Johnny Field, Jr., and Patrick Leonard delivered back-to-back doubles to plate Montgomery's first run. Cameron Seitzer then singled, putting runners at the corners, before Dayron Varona's sacrifice fly to center field.

Mississippi responded to tie the game in the bottom of the frame. Levi Hyams tripled off the wall, and Rohm followed with a RBI-single to right field. Rohm moved to second on Kevin Ahrens' walk and then came around to score on a Rio Ruiz base hit to center.

In the second, Goeddel was hit by a pitch and Justin O'Conner doubled to start the frame. Tommy Coyle then singled to right, scoring Goeddel. Field then delivered a two-run triple to left field. Seitzer followed with a RBI-single to center, extending the Biscuits lead to 6-2.

The Braves made it a one-run game in the fifth. Matt Lipka reached on an error and scored on an Landoni double to left field, cutting the Biscuits lead to 6-3. Rohm walked stole second. An errant throw by the catcher allowed Landoni to score. Rohm later scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-5.

Mississippi loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth. Lipka reached on a failed sacrifice attempt. Landoni singled and Hyams was intentionally walked, bringing up Rohm with one out. Rohm drew a walk to tie the game at 6-6 and send the game into extra innings.

Chris Kirsch started and went five innings for the Biscuits. He gave up five runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out three batters. Jeff Ames worked three scoreless innings out of the Biscuits pen before giving way to Ryan Garton, who gave up the tying run in the ninth.

Stephen Janas gave up six earned runs on nine hits and a walk. Bryton Trepagnier and Mauricio Cabrera both worked two scoreless innings in relief. Harper worked a scoreless ninth and 10th.

In game four of this five-game series, the M-Braves send righty John Gant (1-0, 1.59) to the hill against Biscuits right-hander Jake Faria (3-2, 2.61). First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
