Texas Rangers Promote Former Rider Ryan Strausborger

FRISCO, TEXAS (AUGUST 4, 2015) - The Texas Rangers announced on Tuesday that the club purchased the contract of outfielder Ryan Strausborger from Triple-A Round Rock. Strausborger played in 257 games with Frisco across three different seasons from 2012-14. He is the 133rd former RoughRiders to earn a promotion to the Major Leagues.

Strausborger, 27, has spent the season at Round Rock, batting .278 (96-345) with 10 home runs, 21 doubles, and 34 RBI in 86 games. The right-handed batter has been successful on 27 of 32 steal attempts, the 3rd-highest steals total in the Pacific Coast League. He has batted .306 (38-124) against left-handed pitchers and has seen action at all three outfield positions. He leads the Express in runs (54), hits, and doubles, and ranks 5th on the club in RBI. Over his last 23 games beginning July 7, Strausborger has hit .299 (29-97) with 2 home runs, 8 doubles, and 15 RBI. He was originally selected by the Rangers in the 16th round of the 2010 June draft.

In his two-plus seasons roaming Texas League outfields, Strausborger hit .239 with 17 home runs, 101 RBI, 36 doubles, 18 triples, 121 runs scored and 54 stolen bases. He played for part of 2014 in Frisco, and hit .417 in eight games for the Riders.

Strausborger joins fellow former Riders Joey Gallo, Hanser Alberto, Alex "Chi Chi" Gonzalez and Keone Kela to make their major league debuts with the Rangers this season. Additionally, former Riders Odubel Herrera (Phillies) and Wilfredo Boscan (Pirates) also made the majors for the first time.
