New York Cosmos Host Minnesota United FC on NASL Wednesday Night Soccer on ONE World Sports

August 4, 2015 - North American Soccer League (NASL) News Release

NEW YORK (August 4, 2015) - Coming off a 2-0 home win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, the New York Cosmos remain at Shuart Stadium this week to host surging Minnesota United FC at 7:30 p.m. ET on NASL Wednesday Night Soccer on ONE World Sports.

With a victory, the Cosmos (1-2-1, 5 pts.) would move into the top spot in the North American Soccer League (NASL) Combined Standings, but the visiting Loons (2-2-1, 8 pts.) are coming off an encouraging second-half comeback that saw them earn a hard-fought 3-3 draw in Jacksonville on Friday night.

Even with the confidence stemming from its late comeback against Jacksonville Armada FC a few days ago, Minnesota has yet to beat the Cosmos in six all-time matchups. New York has posted three wins and three draws against the Loons, but nearly fell for the first time in the last meeting if not for a late equalizer from Spanish forward Raúl.

The Loons are starting to find their way in Fall Season play, having picked up eight points in their last four games. The club boasts the league's most in-form attack at the moment, with 11 goals in its last three encounters.

"This is part of a tough group of games on the road - this is the third one, so it kind of ends that cycle, but it is also the middle of a stretch of three games in eight days," said Minnesota head coach Manny Lagos. "It's important for us to understand that we're playing against a very good opponent, obviously the Spring Season Champion and a team that we respect. We think that Wednesday is going to be a great challenge for us, and we're excited about it."

The Cosmos snapped a five-game winless streak with their 2-0 win over the Strikers on Sunday. Defender Hunter Freeman and midfielder Leo Fernandes each found the net to get the Cosmos back in the win column and help the club climb within two points of the league's overall leaders, Ottawa Fury FC.

On the heels of posting a shutout against visiting Fort Lauderdale, the Cosmos defense will have to be strong again with Loons forward Christian Ramirez coming to town. The California native has found the net in four consecutive games, and was named NASL Player of the Month for July.

In addition to NASL Wednesday Night Soccer on ONE World Sports, the network is home to, NASL This Week, a comprehensive 30-minute highlight show that airs every Tuesday night. Fans can tune into ONE World Sports from 6-6:30 p.m. ET tonight to catch highlights, interviews, and more from an eventful last week in the NASL.
