Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks and the Arena Football League announced Tuesday that Jacksonville defensive back Terrance Smith has been awarded the Cutters Catch of the Week honor for Week 19 of the 2015 AFL season. The League is honoring Smith for his over-the-wall interception in the Sharks' loss to the Orlando Predators on Saturday, August 1.

In the first quarter of Saturday's game, Orlando quarterback Randy Hippeard dropped back and fired a deep ball in the direction of Predator receiver Brandon Thompkins. In position to make a play on the ball, Smith leapt into the air, got both hands on the pass and absorbed a hit from Thompkins that sent him careening over the wall to the ground on the other side. Smith clearly held onto the ball to complete the interception, allowing the Sharks to take over possession.

The play was Smith's fourth interception of the season and the 31st of his five-year AFL career. This season, Smith leads the Sharks with 79 total tackles, ranks second on the team with 20 pass breakups and is third among Sharks with those four picks. A First Team All-Arena selection in 2013, Smith holds the single-season franchise record for interceptions, as he picked off 12 passes during that 2013 campaign.

With Smith's award taken into account, the Sharks have now won 11 individual League honors this season. Wide receiver Joe Hills was named the J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week for Week 1 and earned Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 12. Wide receiver Tiger Jones earned Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 3 and Cutters Catch of the Week honors in Week 4. The Sharks had two weekly award winners in Week 14, as Grady was named Offensive Player of the Week and Jackson earned Playmaker of the Week honors. Sykes earned the AFL Highlight of the Week for Week 16, while Greg Reid earned Playmaker of the Week honors in Week 17. Finally, a pair of Sharks were honored in Week 18, as Grady was named Offensive Player of the Week and Sykes won Defensive Player of the Week.
