Tacoma Rainiers News Release

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Las Vegas 51s jumped on the scoreboard early and coasted to a 7-2 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers on Monday night at Cashman Field.

The first batter Rainiers starter James Gillheeney faced, Dilson Herrera, launched a solo home run to left-center field. A one-out triple from Matt Reynolds and an RBI groundout pushed Las Vegas' lead to 2-0 after the first frame.

Down 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning, Patrick Kivlehan provided the Rainiers with a run on an RBI single that scored Stefen Romero from second base.

A pair of Las Vegas hits and two errors by Rainiers second baseman Shawn O'Malley gave the 51s a trio of insurance runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, extending the home club's lead to 7-1.

Kivlehan's team-leading 17th home run of the season in the ninth inning gave Tacoma their final run. Kivlehan finished the night 3-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI - it was his second three-hit performance of the season, and his first since July 3 against Las Vegas.

Gillheeney ran into trouble early and often, and exited the game after surrendering seven runs (five earned) on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work. The lefty walked two and struck out six while being saddled with the loss.

Logan Bawcom and Edgar Olmos combined for 3.0 innings out of the Rainiers bullpen and held the 51s scoreless on just three hits while striking out five.

Tacoma (53-57) expects to send right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (1-2, 6.55) to the mound in game three against Las Vegas (61-49) tomorrow, August 4. The 51s are scheduled to counter with left-hander Darin Gorski (8-8, 5.02). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
