Auburn Doubledays News Release

MORGANTOWN, WV - The Doubledays lost to the Black Bears 6-3 in the franchise's first ever game in the state of West Virginia. It was a back and forth affair that started in the first inning.

Auburn went down 1-2-3 in the top of the first before West Virginia got on the board in the home half of the inning. The two-hitter Kevin Kramer hit a single into right. Kramer advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a stolen base. After Logan Hill walked, Ryan Nagle grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Kramer to score from third. After one the Black Bears led 1-0.

In the very next inning, the Doubledays responded. Rhett Wiseman led off with a single up the middle and came around to score on a double into left center off the bat of David Kerian. After Melvin Rodriguez grounded out to shortstop and Jakson Reetz struck out, Diomedes Eusebio dug in. Eusebio launched a two-run homer over the left field wall and Auburn took a 3-1 lead.

After a scoreless bottom of the second and top of the third, the Black Bears tied the game up at three in the bottom of the third. The Bears' 1-2-3 hitters hit back-to-back-to-back singles, Nagle hit an RBI fielder's choice, and then Daniel Arribas hit an RBI single into left to tie the game 3-3.

An inning later in the fourth, West Virginia led off with four straight singles to give the Black Bears a 5-3 lead they would never give up. In the fifth, Arribas and Albert Baur hit back-to-back singles to led off the frame and West Virginia took a 6-3 lead it would eventually lead by.

After Eusebio's two-run homer in the second, the Doubledays only had one batter reach second base. In the ninth, David Kerian led off with a single and moved to second on a ground out, but was stranded.

Taylor Guilbeau started for the Doubledays and took the loss with the following line: 4+ IP, 11 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, and 1 K. The Doubledays' bullpen was solid once again as Cody Gunter and Matt Pirro combined for the following line: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, and 3 K's.
