Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, W.V. - August 3, 2015) - Austin Coley led West Virginia with seven strong innings to earn his franchise-best 13th win of the season in the Power's 5-1 victory over the Greenville Drive on Monday night. Coley surpassed Evan Anundsen for sole possession of first place in wins and is now chasing the all-time wins record during Charleston's tenure in the South Atlantic League.
The victory put Coley in a three-way tie for sixth place in Charleston SAL baseball victories alongside Tim sossamon from the 1987 Charleston Wheelers and Cedric Allen from the 1995 Charleston Alley Cats. Coley (13-5) went a career-high seven innings and surrendered one run on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts in the victory.
He was provided support offensively in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Jordan Luplow hit a double and scored on a double from Jerrick Suiter. In the fifth, the Power scored four more runs. Tyler Filliben hit a one-out single and advanced to third on a single to right by Tito Polo. After a stolen base put two men in scoring position, Pablo Reyes singled up the middle to give the Power a 3-1 lead. With two outs, Suiter tapped a single over the head of the pitcher Jake Drehoff which scored Reyes and an errant throw from Drehoff allowed Luplow to score from second.
