August 3, 2015 - Southern League (SL1) News Release

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announces the Southern League-MiLB Player of the Month for July. Outfielder Zach Borenstein of the Mobile BayBears (Arizona Diamondbacks) was selected for the honors after an incredible month at the plate.

In 28 games primarily manning left field, Borenstein hit .333 with 17 runs scored, 34 hits, 12 extra-base hits, five doubles, two triples, five homeruns and an even 15:15 strikeout to walk ratio. Furthermore, he led the league with 58 total bases and a whopping 31 RBI. More importantly, the Arlington Heights, Illinois native paced his club to an 18-10 record over the month and the South Division second-half lead.

The slugger had 11 games with more than one RBI and 17 games with at least one. His most impressive run came in consecutive outings on July 12 and 13, both Mobile victories at Jacksonville. During the two game stretch, Borenstein went 4-for-8 with two walks, three runs scored, a triple, two homeruns and five RBI.

In 77 games with Mobile this season, the lefthanded hitter has accumulated a .316 batting average with 10 homeruns, 56 RBI, and an OPS of .930.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim selected Borenstein with their 23rd round pick of the 2011 draft out of Eastern Illinois University. This is his second season in Mobile after a 2014 trade sent the 2013 California League MVP and Angels Minor League Player of the Year from L.A. to the Arizona Diamondbacks system.
