Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 3, 2015) - The Chicago White Sox announced Monday that outfielder Trayce Thompson, a star on the Dash's historic 2012 club, has earned his first promotion to the Major Leagues. Thompson will be in uniform when the White Sox open a three-game home series against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night at U.S. Cellular Field.

Thompson is the 31st former Winston-Salem player to reach the Major Leagues since the franchise became the Dash in 2009. All but one of these former Dash stars have earned their first big league promotion while with the White Sox organization.

With Thompson in the heart of the order, Winston-Salem posted the best regular season record in full-season Minor League Baseball in 2012 (87-51-1). In 116 games, Thompson led the potent Dash offense with 22 home runs and 90 RBIs en route to a spot on the Year-End Carolina League All-Star Team.

The 15th-best prospect in the White Sox system according to MLB.com, Thompson was hitting .260 with 13 homers and 39 RBIs in 104 games with Triple-A Charlotte. The California native spent all of 2013 and 2014 with Double-A Birmingham, helping the Barons win the 2013 Southern League championship.

Six Winston-Salem alumni have earned their first big league promotion this season. Southpaw Carlos Rodon and infielder Tyler Saladino are still on the White Sox 25-man roster. Pitchers Chris Beck and Frankie Montas and infielder Micah Johnson have also enjoyed their first taste of The Show this season.

Thompson has a pair of brothers who have reached the grandest stage of the NBA. Klay Thompson helped the Golden State Warriors win this year's NBA title, while the oldest brother Mychel has logged some time with the Cleveland Cavaliers and played in the NBA Development League last season. The trio's father Mychal was the first overall pick in the 1978 NBA Draft and won two titles with the Lakers (1987 and 1988).

Following Monday's off day, the Dash head to Carolina for a three-game series before returning to BB&T Ballpark for a weekend set with Salem. For your tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
