Luke Westphal promoted to Fort Myers; Sean Miller placed on 7-day DL; T.J. White rejoins Kernels

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that LHP Luke Westphal has been promoted to Fort Myers (FSL); INF Sean Miller has been placed on the 7-day DL, retroactive to August 2nd, with a right thumb contusion; and INF T.J. White rejoins the Kernels from Fort Myers. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

Westphal pitched in seven games (six starts) for the Kernels this season, posting a 1-2 record and 2.70 ERA. In 30 IP, he allowed 20 hits and 10 runs (nine earned) with nine walks and 28 strikeouts. The Twins signed him as a non-drafted free agent on January 31, 2015.

Miller played in 13 games for the Kernels, batting .318 (14-44) with a double and 2 RBI. He was selected by the Twins in the 10th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of the University of South Carolina - Aiken.

White was assigned to Fort Myers on July 10th and played in 20 games, batting .171 with a double and 2 RBI. He played in 74 games for the Kernels this season, batting .230 (61-265) with 10 doubles, five triples and 26 RBI. He was selected by the Twins in the 18th round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of UNLV.

With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at 24 active players, one below the Midwest League maximum of 25, with 10 players currently on the DL.

The Kernels begin a six game home stand on Tuesday, August 4th, with games against the Dayton Dragons and Bowling Green Hot Rods. The upcoming home stand continues through Sunday, August 9th.
