Songco Claims Player of the Week Honors as Saints Keep Rolling

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that St. Paul Saints 1B Angelo Songco (pictured) has been named this week's Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 2.

Songco had a hit in all five games he played in this week, going 11-for-24 (.458) with five doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI.

He began his week on Wednesday at the Gary SouthShore RailCats by going 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, four RBI and two runs scored as the Saints won 12-6. St. Paul was defeated 3-1 on Thursday, but Songco was 1-for-5 with a double. The two clubs closed their series on Friday, and Songco was 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored as the Saints rolled 18-2. St. Paul remained on the road Saturday to face the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. In a 3-0 win Saturday, Songco went 1-or-4. He capped the week Sunday with an impressive 4-for-5 showing that included two doubles, three RBI and a run scored as the Saints won 9-6.

On the season, the former Loyola Marymount University player is batting .351 (91-for-259) with 21 doubles, five triples, 11 home runs and 58 RBI. He has helped the Saints to an incredible 51-16 record.

Songco first joined St. Paul during the 2014 season, when he was released from the Los Angeles Dodgers' organization. He had played parts of six seasons with the Dodgers, and reached as high as the Class AA Chattanooga Lookouts. His best season came in 2011 when he hit .313 for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the California League. Songco blasted a career-high 29 home runs in that campaign.

St. Paul concludes its series at Fargo tonight at 7:02 p.m. Central time. That game will be available live and for free atwww.americanassociationbaseball.tv.
