Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Hooks third baseman Colin Moran was named Texas League Player of the Month for July, league president Tom Kayser announced Sunday. Moran hit .349 with seven doubles, three home runs, 22 RBIs and a .407 on-base percentage in 27 games.

The former North Carolina Tar Heel hit safely in 23 of his 27 games played, including a 12-game hitting streak from July 18-30 during which he batted .400 (20-for-50) with 11 runs scored and 12 RBIs. The 12-game stretch is tied for the longest by a Hook this season, following Jio Mier's hit streak in May.

In July Moran ranked second in the TL in batting average, third in RBIs and fourth in hits (37). The left-handed hitter has crushed righties this season, batting .348 against them with all four of his homers and 41 runs batted in.

Moran has spent two stints on the disabled list in 2015 and overall is hitting .306 with four long balls and 52 RBIs. The Astros acquired him from Miami, along with OF Jake Marisnick, RHP Francis Marte and the Marlins' 2015 compensation pick, for RHP Jarred Cosart, IF Enrique Hernandez and OF Austin Wates on July 31, 2014.

He was originally selected in the first round (sixth overall) by Miami in the 2013 draft.
