Biloxi Shuckers News Release

MOBILE, AL - The Biloxi Shuckers' bullpen hadn't allowed a run in 17.2 innings, but couldn't hang onto a late, one-run lead in the eighth inning as the Shuckers' fell, 3-2, to the Mobile BayBears on Sunday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. The loss ended the three-game winning streak and dropped Biloxi to a game under .500 in the second half and five games behind first place of Mobile.

Both offenses were stagnant through the first three innings, totaling only two hits combined. But, it was the Shuckers who broke the scoreless tie in the fourth.

Orlando Arcia (1x4, RBI, R, SB) extended his hitting streak to five games with a single to start the fourth and moved to second on his 18th stolen base of the season and took second on an errant throw to second by Mobile catcher Mark Thomas. Nathan Orf (0x3, RBI) drove Arcia home with a grounder to short to give Biloxi a 1-0 lead.

The Harvard product lowered his ERA to 1.95.

The 26-year-old walked two batters in the seventh, paving way for Jed Bradley to come out of the 'pen for his 13th appearance. The lefty got a shallow fly ball of the bat of pinch hitter Stewart Ijames to center to keep Mobile off the board in the inning.

Biloxi (17-18) took advantage of the Mobile bullpen in the eighth to reclaim the lead. Brandon Macia's (1x1, R, 2B) pinch-hit, one-out double put a runner in scoring position for Brett Phillips (2x3), who singled into right to put runners on the corners for Arcia. The 20-year-old put down a bunt, allowing Macias to score and give the Shuckers a 2-1 edge.

Mobile (22-13) took the lead against Jacob Barnes (3-5) in the eighth, snapping the string of 17.2 consecutive scoreless innings out of the Shuckers' bullpen.

A leadoff walk to Sean Jamieson in the eighth came back to haunt Biloxi, as the tying run would score two batters later on a double play. Back-to-back doubles by Borenstein and Gabriel Guerrero put the Shuckers in a 3-2 hole going into the final inning.
