Birmingham Barons News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - The Smokies (55-49, 16-19) forced Birmingham starter Tyler Danish from the game after just four innings of work Sunday evening, claiming a 5-2 win over the Barons (57-47, 24-11) with the help of a five-run inning at Smokies Park.

Tennessee tagged Danish (7-8, 4.99 ERA) saw his road-game struggles continue as his ERA inflated to 7.57 when away from Regions Field. The right-hander cruised through the first two innings, facing the minimum, but hit a bump along the way in the third.

Five consecutive hits from the Smokes led off the third frame. Tennessee collected six of its 14 hits in the inning, including doubles from Stephen Bruno, Jacob Hannemann and Wilson Contreras. Danish escaped a one-out, two-on jam in the fourth and was pulled after throwing 79 pitches.

Reliever Tondy Bucciferro gave the Barons four innings of scoreless baseball, and the opportunity to jump back into the game. The righty allowed just two hits after entering in the fifth, but two late runs were all the support he would get from the Birmingham bats.

Kennyn Walker led off the eighth with an infield single, and Tim Anderson took a walk to board a second runner. A hit-and-run off the bat of Jacob May scored Walker from second, and a sacrifice fly to center plated Anderson from third.

Tennessee closer Sterling Peralta was called on in the ninth to retire the Barons. The Birmingham side was retired in order as Peralta earned his third save. Smokies starter Andres Santiago (2-4, 3.99 ERA) earned the win with a, eight-strikeout, three-hit outing over six innings.
