Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (19-21) came up one game short of their first three-game sweep of the season. They fell short of the Tri-City ValleyCats (23-19).

Tri-City jumped out early, and scored often. They only had four extra bases, but single after single put the Scrappers in deep trouble early on. Every batter in the ValleyCats lineup had multi hits except for Antonio Nunez and Richard Gonzalez.

The ValleyCats scored three in the bottom of the fourth and fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh. One of the two runs in th seventh was a Cesar Carrasco home run to left just under the scoreboard.

The Scrappers did get three runs in the sixth. They got a two-run home run from Jodd Carter and then an RBI single for Nate Winfrey.

Daniel Salters' 12-game hitting streak came to an end. Ka'ai Tom extended his to six games, while Winfrey extended his to eight games. The Scrappers snapped their five game winning streak, but finished the road trip 4-1 and head back to Niles for a six-game homestand against the Crosscutters and Muckdogs.
