Mountaineers to Face Muskrats in Playoffs

August 2, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Vermont Mountaineers News Release

MONTPELIER, Vt. - The Vermont Mountaineers will take on the Laconia Muskrats in Round 1 of the 2015 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) playoffs, marking the second consecutive season the two sides will square off in the opening round of postseason play.

With Vermont and Sanford owning the top two seeds entering the final day of the regular season, the only two spots in the Northern Division that needed to be determined were the third and fourth.

On Saturday's final day of the regular season, Laconia lost to Valley, 3-2, and North Adams defeated Newport, 4-0. Those results meant that the Muskrats and SteepleCats concluded the 42-game regular season tied, at 21-21. North Adams owned the tiebreaker, meaning the SteepleCats clinched the three seed, while Laconia (the Northern Division leaders at the All-Star break) finished fourth.

The top-seeded Mountaineers will host the Muskrats in Game 1 of the Northern Division semifinal round on Monday, August 3. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Recreation Field. The start time, originally slated for 6:30 p.m., was moved up five hours with the anticipation of a severe late afternoon storm in Central Vermont.

Game 2 of the Northern Division semifinal will take place on Tuesday night in Laconia, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

A decisive third game, if necessary, will be held at Recreation Field on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
